Michael Geissler at international online discussion on climate protection in the building sector
BEA Executive Director Michael Geissler participated in an international online discussion titled "Rebuilding the Built Environment: Paths and Barriers to Net Zero Roundtable" on June 29. The event was hosted by the Network for Global Innovation (NGIN) and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP), a long-time BEA partner and local Los Angeles energy and water provider.

Saving energy together - New Online Portal supports SMEs in increasing their energy efficiency
With more than 25 million SMEs in Europe, this sector represents an enormous energy saving potential. SMEs are often prevented from implementing energy audits and energy savings measures due to lack of expertise, time, and capital, but also lack of dedicated support. The Energy Efficient SME portal has been designed to unlock this untapped potential. The portal offers a range of support, including a handbook, training materials and tools, and inspiring best practice case studies from selected countries in Europe.

Report "Environmental Aspects in Public Procurement in Europe" published
This report summarizes the contents of the conference "Environmental Aspects in Public Procurement in Europe". It took place on 1st and 2nd of October 2020 in Berlin. It was organized as a two-day hybrid and digital conference with national and international guests and speakers. Key topics were climate protection, circular economy, biodiversity and a non-toxic environment.

German-Indian dialogue on the financing of energy services
Michael Geißler was invited today as an expert to take part in an exchange of experiences between Germany and India on different business models for energy service companies (ESCOs). In a lecture, the managing director of the Berliner Energieagentur (BEA) mainly presented financing models for various energy services and, in an open dialogue, best practice examples from the BEA environment, which could possibly be used on the Indian market.

EU project wants to raise energy saving potential in SMEs
In small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), there is energy-saving potential that goes hand in hand with more efficient energy use in processes and in building use. In order to identify this potential and use it as an example for the more than 25 million SMEs in Europe, the EU Commission has approved funding the GEAR@SME project, which started on September 1, 2020. The Berliner Energieagentur (BEA) is a partner in the project and is responsible for implementation in Germany.

Save the Date: Conference "Environmental Aspects in Public Procurement in Europe"
Public authorities serve as an example in environmentally friendly procurement. But what role do have environmental aspects currently in public procurement in Europe and how can the aim of environmentally friendly procurement be implemented in practice? The conference will be hosted by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) and the German Environment Agency (UBA) and organised by the Berlin Energy Agency GmbH (BEA).

Chile's energy minister visits BEA
Chile's Minister of Energy, Susana Jiménez, was informed about distributed combined heat, power and cooling (CCHP) by the Berlin Energy Agency (BEA) during her stay in Berlin. Together with a high-ranking German-Chilean delegation, she visited the power station in the service complex "Königstadt-Terrassen" in Prenzlauer Berg.

Transcontinental cooperation between Berlin and L.A.
The Berliner Energieagentur (BEA) and the Public Utility of Los Angeles in California have started a cooperation in the field of decentralized power generation. Both companies want to install so-called Micro Grids as stand-alone grids in both cities, via which locally generated electricity from renewable energies can be distributed via an intelligent, smart control system. Both companies and cities want to exchange and learn from each other about their experiences with this component of energy system transformation.

City of Essen wins European Award for Energy Efficiency
The City of Essen has won one of seven awards at this year’s European Energy Service Award (EESA) ceremony. With an Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) Project in Essen City Hall that has undergone an extensively renovation in terms of energy efficiency, high cost savings and a reduction in CO 2 emissions have been achieved. The Berliner Energieagentur (BEA) together with the European Commission award the prizes, in three different categories, to outstanding European projects and institutions in the field of energy services.
